Maple Ward was a refurbishment and extension project that was completed in July 2009. The existing ward had been left empty for several years and was showing signs of neglect. It was proposed to move existing patients into the ward to free up space for further refurbishment in other areas of the Holme Valley Memorial Hospital. The existing space was completely re-furbished and an extension was constructed to provide more bed space for patients.
